Johnson County Jail

Leisure Time

Interview with Viktor

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Viktor: Law library, books, cards, TV, church, AA. At Osage and Chase we got some outside time every day, shoot basketball or just exercise, walk, bible study, etc.

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce?
Viktor: The guards were in charge of what we watched.

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Viktor: I gained weight, but I needed to. You can always exercise.

JM: How often did you get to go outside?
Viktor: Never in Johnson County. Once a day when farmed out.

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Viktor: Yes. As I recall they were non-denominational, held at various times.
